About the Soap Shaper™
Created by soap artist, Belinda Williams, the Soap Shaper™ design tools help cold process soap makers consistently create extraordinary designs in soap. It all began with the desire to create a product that was durable, user-friendly and fun to use. You can now choose from a variety of designs and sizes to give your soaps a unique accent, shape or design with minimal effort – the first soap specific design tools of their kind.
When you buy a Soap Shaper, you are purchasing the unique soap design (i.e. the creative idea) and a tool so that you can make it yourself. An introduction letter is included in every order with directions, support and guidance – a learning tool – to help you achieve the design.
There are 2 styles of Soap Shaper:
The pull-through Soap Shaper for use with column molds
The smooth-over Soap Shaper for use with loaf and slab molds
Soap Shapers are made from environmentally friendly and durable PLA (Polylactic Acid) which is derived from crops such as corn and sugarcane. PLA is a renewable and biodegradable material. To clean your Soap Shaper, HAND WASH ONLY with lukewarm water and soap. Towel- or air-dry. Soap Shapers are NOT dishwasher safe. PLA is a heat sensitive and exposure to heat may cause melting and/or warping. Avoid temperatures of 60 C / 140 F and higher.
Due to the nature of the Melt & Pour soap making process (i.e. the heat required and speed at which it hardens) we DO NOT recommend using Soap Shapers with M&P as they will likely get damaged. Product development is currently underway on tools suitable for use in Melt & Pour soap making. Sign up to the Soap Shaper Newsletter (form above) to be the first to hear when these product will be available and stay tuned to our Instagram page for announcements.
How to Use The Soap Shaper™
Here are the basics below. A full set of directions, tips and tricks is included with every order to help you get started.
To use the pull-through Soap Shaper (for column molds), attach the design plate to the stainless steel stem, fixing it into place with the two stainless steel bolts supplied. Place the Soap Shaper with the design plate down into the column mold. In this position the stainless steel stem will be facing up and out of the mold. Fill the mold with alternating pours of cold process soap batter at light trace, using at least 2 contrasting colours. Once the mold is filled to the desired level, slowly and gently pull the Soap Shaper up through the mold by the stainless steel stem.
To use the smooth-over Soap Shaper (for loaf or slab molds), simply smooth or drag the shaped edge across the top of a semi-firm layer of cold process soap. Aim for the consistency of your soap to mimic creamed butter. The flat edge Soap Shaper can be used to create perfectly straight lines or layers. The smooth-over Soap Shaper is currently available in a number of widths to work with common soap mold sizes. They can also be custom ordered to fit the exact width and height of your mold.
